Northside San Antonio club hosting Selena look-a-like contest

If you look like Selena (and it’s not just your nice tia telling you so on Facebook), then you might want to make plans for a Friday night contest at a Northside club.

Annual celebrations honoring the Texas trailblazer’s legacy always crop up around this time of year. They coincide with the anniversaries of Selena’s death (March 31, 1995) and birthday (April 16).

This event, hosted by The Industry on Friday, March 25, comes with some cash. The longtime club known for playing 80s and 90s music is handing out money to contest guests who look like the Tejano icon.

“Bust out the red lipstick and bustier,” the club says on event details shared online.

The top-notch Selena look-a-like will win $500, 2nd place gets $300, and 3rd place goes home with $200.

The competition begins at 11:30 p.m. sharp, but the Selena-inspired event is an all-night thing. From 9 p.m to 2 a.m., Selena fans are invited to the club to dance in memory of the star. The club will play Selena sets every hour, according to the event page.

The Industry is located at 8021 Pinebrook Drive.

If you’re looking for more opportunities to honor Selena, a tribute night is planned at Aztec Theater on April 16, Brass Monkey is hosting a special night on April 21, and Flying Saucer is releasing Selena-themed beer glasses on April 6

In addition, the Selena movie continues to receive national recognition. On April 7, theaters throughout the U.S. will rerelease the 1997 biopic starring Jennifer Lopez as Selena to honor the film’s 25th anniversary. Fandango’s website shows a 7:30 p.m. movie time at Cinemark McCreless Market. Tickets can be reserved now.
