New, free resource at Wayne County Public Library teaches computer, technology skills

WOOSTER – The Wayne County Public Library is offering a new digital resource on its website, known as Northstar Digital Literacy, that allows viewers to “to improve their skills with computers, software, or technology,” according to a press release from the library.

The resource has an assessment tool “showing what skills you’ve mastered and what skills need improvement,” according to a post on the library’s website The skills tested through the assessment include:

• Essential computer skills (internet basics, using email, etc.)

• Essential software like Microsoft Word and PowerPoint

• Using technology in daily life (social media, information literacy, career search skills, etc.)

Northstar also offers the following “free self-paced courses for learning and improving your skills” as listed on the website:

• Essential computer skills: basic computer, internet basics, using email, windows

• Essential Software: Microsoft Word

• Using Technology in Daily Life: Career Search Skills

• Lessons on Microsoft Excel and social media will be coming soon

These assessments and lessons are available at any time and library staff can assist with any questions about the service during each locations’ normal business hours. Computers at each library can access the website and are open to the public.

“We hope that people will take advantage of this free resource to learn new skills or brush up on old ones,” Library Director Jennifer Shatzer said in a statement. “It’s also a great resource for local employers who want to increase their employees’ digital literacy skills.”
